WPS-HA Report shows accountability is central to WPS agenda

Karama has welcomed the publication of the Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action Compact report 2022.

Launched in 2021 during the Generation Equality Forum, the WPS-HA Compact brought together governments, the UN and its agencies, civil society organizations, academia and the private sector, as a global movement to achieve progress in implementing the women, peace and security agenda, and the humanitarian-peace nexus.

The Compact has over 205 signatories committed to making progress, and being accountable for the commitment they have made. As a board member of the Compact, Karama has reported on progress against the various commitments it has made.

In welcoming the report, we note that accountability has been a problem that has dogged implementation of the WPS agenda for more than 20 years. Commitments that have been made by governments at the highest level have simply not been properly resourced and seen through, political will has vanished as quickly as the ink has dried on UN resolutions. We hold ourselves to our own commitments, and we expect all signatories to the WPS-HA Compact to do the same.
