What are Personal Status Laws, and why do they need to be reformed?

Activists across the Arab region are campaigning for reform of national Personal Status Laws, many of which institutionalize discrimination against women. But what are these laws, and why do they have such a negative impact on gender equality?

We spoke to Amani Aruri of the Women's Centre for Legal Aid and Counseling about their work to reform the Palestinian Personal Status Law.
